1) The Application

Step One: The Application

So you've read a few blogs, watched a few videos on YouTube or heard through the grape vine about the program and are now thinking you yourself would quite like the opportunity to work at the Happiest Place on Earth (I don't blame you!). So how do you go about applying for it?

Online Application - Form Filling

Once onto the Yummy Jobs website you will see a brief overview of what the program entails (Plus a video clip following the day in the life of a CRP employee!) in addition to information about application dates, eligibility and program fees which will be required should you become accepted on to the program.

This is all really important information to read and factor in. As you need to be sure when applying that if you get accepted you can afford the necessary fees for the program and also understand that it is a year long program involved around work. Yes you will be living in Florida for a year but it is important to remember you are applying for a job not a vacation.

After reading all the info - you've decided to click the 'Apply Now' button. What next?

You'll be asked to fill out your personal details as is standard on any job application, including some details which will be on your CV such as your employment history and education background.

Then...you'll be asked the following questions:

1) When is your availability for the program?
2) Why do you value cultural exchange and interaction?
3) Final Comments
4) What is your motivation for the program?
5) Have you worked for Disney before?
6) Have you previously taken part in a Yummy Jobs program?
7) Where did you hear about Yummy Jobs?

The three questions I have highlighted in bold are the ones I consider to be the most important and crucial to the application process (Excluding the CV and Cover Letter which I will discuss later on).

These three questions are pivotal to the application as these cover your intentions for applying, why you wish to take part in this program in particular and allows you to demonstrate your cultural awareness and understanding of what the role will involve.

Final comments although vague is your chance to include anything you feel you wish to add which hasn't been covered anywhere else in the application or you can use it to reinforce and highlight key areas you wish to draw to the attention of the recruiter. This space is up to you how you use it but use it wisely ;)!

CV and Covering Letter

Now I'm afraid I'm not going to tell you what the winning formula is for getting your CV or covering letter to get you to the next stage, as no-one really knows why one CV will be granted an interview and another not as only the recruiters themselves know what they're looking for.

However! There are a few tips I think are worth mentioning which may be of use to those thinking of applying.

CV Tips
  • Quality over quantity! I made a fatal error with my first application with the CV, it ended up being around 3 pages long this is far too long! It should be 2 pages max and make sure you highlight only the relevant and recent work experience and note the skills you learnt from each role.
  • Display your personality
  • Demonstrate your passion - Let them know you love the Disney brand and how your work experience will make you a suitable candidate for the role.

Cover Letter Tips
Divide the cover letter into three sections:

  • Section 1: Why do you want to apply for this program?
  • Section 2: How does your past work experience make you the best candidate for the role?
  • Section 3: Current situation and where you see yourself in the future.
