2) Pre-Screen Interview

Step Two: Pre-screen Interview

Have you received an email from Yummy Jobs inviting you to a Pre-Screen interview? Congratulations!!! Or perhaps you've just applied and are curious about the next stage in the application process?

Whatever your reasons I hope to offer you an insight into what is involved!

So...what is the Pre-Screen Interview?

The Pre-Screen Interview is an event organised by the Yummy Jobs team to help decide who goes on to the next round; face-to-face interviews (with Disney Representatives). It is also the first time Yummy Jobs get to see you in person and vice versa.

What to expect

Based on my 2014 experience the day was organised into two different time slots, one at 9am the other at 2pm. Not sure on numbers in each time slot, but at a guess around 50 in each? The Pre-Screen interview for us was held at Brasserie Blanc on the South Bank, London.

When you arrive you meet up with everyone else who is waiting in a little section of the restaurant until someone from Yummy Jobs calls everyone over to sign in and to be seated in the back area of the restaurant for the presentation.

The presentation lasts approximately 45mins/1hour. After brief introductions from the Yummy Jobs team who tell you a bit about themselves and how they got involved with Yummy Jobs (all at my interview had gone through a Disney Program themselves), they then begin with a quiz, where some very exciting Disney International Program prizes can be won for getting the answers correct, so pay attention and put up your hand ;)!

They then talk through the program giving an overview into what the role entails, what are some of the perks of the job and what to expect from the program, with some footage added in!

At the end of the presentation they read out the interview groups (you get interviewed in groups of 6 or 7) of course each group is given a Disney name. You are then told the time of your interview and reminded to arrive 10/15mins before.

The Interview

The interview style will often vary between groups so there is no set formula that Yummy Jobs follow for this, except it is a group interview, where the interviewees are sat in a semi-circle facing the interviewer/s.

However, Yummy Jobs will have to ask some basic questions which are pretty standard questions which include; Do you have any tattoos or piercings? What is your role preference and why? When can you start? I believe these questions will always be asked.

After these questions, some ice-breakers will be introduced. In my interview we had to introduce the person sat next to us by finding out their name, their age, where they were from and one interesting fact about themselves.

When you receive the email which confirms you have made it through to the Pre-Screen Interviews Yummy Jobs ask you to :

Please bring along an item that you feel authentically represents the United Kingdom or your home town

So at some point in your interview, you will be asked to present this item to the rest of your group and explain why you feel this authentically represents the UK or your home town.

Some of the questions you might get asked during your interview include:
  • Why do you want to do this program?
  • How will you cope being away from family and friends for so long?
  • Why do you want to work for Disney?
  • What would you like to achieve on this program?
  • What do you think the program can offer you?/What do you think you can gain from the Cultural Representative Program?
  • Which Disney character best describes your personality?

I could include many more questions but the important thing is to not sound rehearsed and you need to be able to think on your feet, as you honestly could get asked anything. This shouldn't be a problem anyway as if you are passionate enough about Disney and are 100% wanting to participate in the Cultural Representative Program you won't find it hard to answer the questions.

Also it is worth mentioning there is often an activity included which can vary from working in groups to design an attraction which could be placed at the UK Pavilion for guests, to selling an item off the Rose and Crown Menu (The pub located at the UK Pavilion in EPCOT) or selling an item of UK merchandise, to standing up and having to give a 1 minute pitch as to why you think you are the best person for the role.

After your interview you are free to do what you want, you can either choose to spend a day in London with your newly found friends or travel home depending on how far you have travelled it is totally up to you. The only thing left is to wait for the email letting you know if you made it through to the Face-to-Face interviews or not.
